Prayer of St. Gertrude the Great

A prayer to release many souls from Purgatory each time it is said and which was extended to include living sinners as well.

Eternal Father, I offer You the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, for those in my own home and in my family. Amen.

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Did you know that the first line of this prayer comes straight from the Bible? The first sentence is the angel Gabriel’s words to Mary. Starting with ‘Blessed,’ these words are spoken by Mary’s relative Elizabeth. The second line of the prayer is our asking Mary to pray for us, which isn’t such a bad idea! Remember what Jesus did when Mary asked him about the wine at the wedding feast at Cana? He performed his first miracle! Her intercession is very powerful.
