For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline. (NRSV 2 Timothy 1:7)
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Jesus is no slacker. If He started something, He’ll finish it. It reminds me of the redneck expression ‘git ‘er done!’ so often used by people like Larry the Cable Guy. To me, this Bible verse in Philippians speaks of trusting in the One who started it all, God. He’ll get it done!
Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath,
but righteousness delivers from death.
Proverbs 11:4 (NIV)
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:13 NRSV
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, or like a watch in the night. Psalm 90:2,4 NRSV
Sirach 3:29New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
29 The mind of the intelligent appreciates proverbs,
and an attentive ear is the desire of the wise.
Isaiah 41:10New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
do not fear, for I am with you,
do not be afraid, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.

This passage kind of struck me today as so many people I know are struggling with some issue or another; someone they love is dying; their health is failing; they need wisdom for some situation… I find this passage comforting. May you find comfort in this passage too, for you are not alone; your God is with you!
[Hearing and Doing the Word] You must understand this, my beloved: let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger; (James 1:19 NRSV)
But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace for those who make peace.
Blessed are those who trust in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream. It shall not fear when heat comes, and its leaves shall stay green; in the year of drought it is not anxious, and it does not cease to bear fruit.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
We see this Bible verse so frequently, but do we really take this in and digest it? If God had a wallet, our picture would be in it! Have you ever thought about it that way? Perhaps not. God thought of us before the world began…. It’s a lot to think about.

[ The Gift of Love ] If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.
