Helping “lost” souls

As some of you are aware, my husband Kevin and I are volunteer chaplains at the airport. There is one particular area out there we visit on a regular basis. Some of the volunteers joke with us about “helping lost souls.” We’re not there to convert anyone. Our primary function at the airport is to be Jesus for others however they need it. We listen. We help people find food, give them directions to their gate, concourse, baggage claim, restrooms, you name it. Some Sundays, Kevin and I are also there to assist at Catholic Mass and conduct an interfaith service for employees, passengers, and flight crew. We console people in their grief. We rejoice in their good news. We pray together, break open the word, and we facilitate a restful spiritual oasis in the midst of airport chaos, even if just for a short time. So, yes we are helping lost souls at the airport, just not in the way you might think.
