The importance of prayer (Mark 1:29-39)

In his homily (First Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year B), Kevin mentioned how people brought the sick and suffering to Jesus. It was very demanding. “What gave Jesus the energy and stamina to do that? To put it simply, He knew how to recharge Himself, and He did it often. We hear it right there in today’s gospel. ‘Rising very early before dawn, He left and went off to a deserted place, where He prayed.’ Jesus knew that something He needed to do was to go and be in conversation with His Father. He would just go and talk to His heavenly Father, whom he affectionately called His Abba. But just as importantly, He would listen to His Father. It wasn’t a one-sided conversation, with Jesus doing all the talking. That’s an area of our prayer life that we would do well to learn from Jesus. Do you know how we can tell that He listened to His Father? Because He generally came away from that prayer ready to go and minister to others. In other words, Jesus was tapping into the power and energy of God. That’s what conversation with God is supposed to do for us.”

I invite you to share with us an example of how prayer has recharged you….
